Redshift ID manager for Cinema 4D

Every Object and Material ID in one panel. Set them in two clicks.

Redshift's Object and Material IDs are what your Puzzle Mattes are built from — and setting them is fiddly. Tag each object by hand and remember to tick the override; open each material's node graph to find the ID on the output node; keep a list in your head of which numbers are taken. RS ID Manager lists every ID in the scene in one dockable panel. Select objects or materials in Cinema 4D, type an ID, press Set. Missing tags are added, clashes are coloured, and the Puzzle Matte AOVs are built from the result.

Great plugin, it's usually a pain to have to dig around for the RS Object tags or in to mats to manage IDs, having them all in one place and being able to create the AOVs is a huge boost. Thanks!

Before / after

The old way, and the panel way.

Without RS ID Manager
  • Add an RS Object tag to each object, then tick Object ID Override
  • Open every material's node graph to find the Material ID on the output node
  • Keep track of which IDs are taken — and find the clash in the comp
  • Pack the IDs into Puzzle Matte AOVs by hand, three to a pass
With RS ID Manager
  • Select objects or materials, type an ID, press Set
  • Missing RS tags added, the override switched on
  • Every ID in the scene listed, duplicates coloured
  • Puzzle Matte AOVs built from your IDs in one click
Set

Set IDs on what you've selected.

The panel follows the Object Manager. Select objects — or their RS tags — and they light up in the list. Type an ID, press Set, and it's written in one undo step. Objects that have no RS Object tag yet are listed under their own heading and get one; tags with the ID override switched off are switched on.

  • Selection in the panel is the Object Manager selection — click a row to select the object
  • "Selected — no RS tag" and "Selected — RS tag, no ID" show exactly what Set will add
  • Double-click an ID to edit it in place
  • An ID of 0 switches the override off again
Many at once

One matte, or one each.

Set on a selection of several objects or materials and the panel asks how you want it. Same ID puts them all in one matte. Unique IDs counts up from the number you typed and skips any ID already in use, so a new batch never merges into an existing matte.

  • Same ID — one matte for the whole selection
  • Unique IDs — one each, counting up, skipping IDs in use
  • Works the same for objects and materials
Materials

Material IDs without opening a node graph.

The Material IDs pane lists every Redshift material with an ID — node materials and legacy Xpresso materials alike. Select materials in the Material Manager, or their material tags in the Object Manager, and Set writes the ID straight to the output node. With Select Materials of Active Objects on, selecting an object selects the materials it carries.

  • Redshift node materials and Xpresso materials
  • Materials with no ID yet listed under "Selected — no Material ID"
  • Select the materials, their tags, or the objects that use them, from the list
Read the scene

Spot the clash before the render does.

Two objects sharing an ID is sometimes the plan and sometimes a mistake. Duplicate IDs are coloured as a group, so you can see which is which at a glance. Sort by ID, or group by layer to see each part of the scene on its own — headers carry the layer colour and a count, and fold away.

  • Order: scene order, sort by ID, or group by layer
  • Row colour: duplicate IDs, or layer colour
  • Native Cinema 4D tree view — no row limit, fast on large scenes
Output

Puzzle Mattes from your IDs, in one click.

Create Puzzlematte AOVs packs every Object and Material ID into Redshift Puzzle Matte AOVs, three IDs to a pass on the red, green and blue channels. Run it again after a change and it updates the AOVs it made, rather than adding a second set.

  • Object ID and Material ID mattes, with optional reflection / refraction IDs
  • Multi-pass, or Direct output with its own EXR compression and file path
  • Path tokens — $filepath, $prj, $pass and more — resolved by Redshift
  • Create ID AOV List writes every ID into an annotated null, for whoever is comping
Specification

What it needs, and what it works with.

Host and platform
  • Cinema 4D 2026 with Redshift 2026, Windows and macOS
  • A dockable panel: show Object IDs, Material IDs, or both, with an adjustable split

What it writes
  • Redshift Object tags (Object ID and its override) and the Material ID on Redshift materials — nothing else in your scene
  • Every change is a single Cinema 4D undo step
  • Puzzle Matte AOVs and the ID AOV List only when you ask for them
Installing

Your purchase is a zip with a Chroma folder inside.

  1. Copy the Chroma folder into your Cinema 4D plugins folder — on Windows, %APPDATA%\MAXON\<Cinema 4D version>\plugins — or any plugins path set in Cinema 4D's preferences.
  2. Restart Cinema 4D and open Chroma ▸ RS ID Manager.
  3. Click the ID icon at the top of the panel and enter the licence key from your Gumroad receipt.

Already using another Chroma plugin? Install it from Chroma ▸ Chroma Plugin Manager instead. Updates arrive the same way — in the panel when a newer release is out, or in the Plugin Manager.

Questions

Questions, answered.

Which versions of Cinema 4D and Redshift does it support?

Cinema 4D 2026 with Redshift 2026, on Windows and macOS.

Do I need to add RS Object tags first?

No. Select the objects and press Set — any object without an RS Object tag gets one, with the ID override switched on.

Does it work with Xpresso Redshift materials?

Yes. Node materials and legacy Xpresso materials are both listed, and the Type column shows which is which.

What does an ID of 0 do?

On an object, it switches the RS tag's ID override off, so the object drops out of the list. On a material it clears the Material ID.

Will it change anything else in my scene?

No. It writes Object IDs on RS Object tags and Material IDs on Redshift materials, adds RS Object tags where you ask it to, and creates Puzzle Matte AOVs and the ID AOV List only when you press those buttons. Every change can be undone.

How do updates work?

When a newer release is out, an update button appears in the panel; the Chroma Plugin Manager shows it too. Updates are free.

Every ID, in one place.

Select, type an ID, press Set. RS ID Manager keeps your Object and Material IDs straight, and builds the Puzzle Mattes from them.
